Hey, you! Yeah, you. Do you realize what a dynamic woman you are?
If you’re like most of us, you’re selling yourself short.
It’s time to take control of your life to become the highest and best version of yourself.
Get what you want out of life
Helping women succeed…that’s my privilege and my passion.
It didn’t always used to be that way. When I was in my 20s, I avoided my other women. Most were on the “mommy track” – all they could talk about, it seemed, were their hubbies, their kids and poopy diapers. Not me. I knew I was going to have a career and if the relationships and children came along – eventually – well, that was OK. But in the short term, I was all about becoming a career woman, getting my journalism degree, working at a newspaper and changing the world.
I was focused on helping one woman succeed – me! – and I did.
I got my degree. I got my newspaper job and within two years, received my first promotion to management. From there, it was upward and onward until, after holding various editor slots at community and daily newspapers and reaching the level of associate publisher – I knew it was time for a change.
From there, I took the job as the CEO of the local chamber of commerce and kept going. But after nearly seven years and on the eve of my 60th birthday, I chucked “corporate life” and devoted myself to building Key Dynamics, which I had formed in 2003 after getting my coaching credentials. (For a more detailed account of my career trajectory, please click here.)
In the first two years of focusing solely on building my business, I did many different things – built websites, created and managed social media campaigns, helped business owners rebrand their companies, wrote press releases, designed and wrote newsletters and much more. I learned so much along the way and am grateful for all those opportunities.
All of these things helped put litter in the cat box, but along the way came the realization that my burning desire to change the world actually was a burning desire to help women succeed.
Improving women’s lives
In my careers — including my coaching practice, which consisted mainly of women — I came across so many women who short-changed themselves, who got stuck in ways that ate away at their self-confidence, self-esteem and sense of worth. Even though many younger women benefited from the women’s movement of the 1970s and 1980s, they still found themselves straitjacketed by old patterns, outdated ways of thinking.
Their education and positions of authority didn’t release them from the burdens of society’s expectations – they just piled them on top of those traditional roles. They were still expected to handle most of the household tasks, still took care of the kids, still were expected to help aging parents. Work all day (and sometimes nights and weekends) at an office, then be the major family caregiver and top it all off as Sexy Vixen at night to please their husbands with wild and innovative lovemaking.
And, of course, do it all with a smile.
And they tried. Lord knows they tried. As a result, they are exhausted. They are starved for time. They lack boundaries. They don’t know how to say no. They are resentful, angry and disappointed. They feel like failures. Everyone else’s needs come before their own. They are so far down the list that many have fallen off the list altogether. And if they do, on rare occasions, say, “This is MY time. This is what I want to do,” they feel guilty. And then they feel guilty for feeling guilty!
And no closer to where they really want to be.
Go ahead – call me an idealist, but this is just not right.
Every person – every woman – has value. Everyone deserves to want what they want, and to go after it. It’s OK to harbor “negative” feelings and even (gasp!) express them appropriately. It’s OK to set boundaries for personal health and the health and well-being of everyone around them. It’s called “sticking up for yourself,” and it’s a life skill that everyone must have to survive.
Otherwise, life is lived as a doormat, and that’s no life at all. And, honestly, it’s a terrible example to set for your children, boys and girls.
The problem is, many women haven’t been taught these skills…skills that can be learned and perfected through practice, and that allow them to be the dynamic women they were meant to be.
I want to help change that. On a personal level, I want to help them:
- Banish negative self-talk to feel better about themselves
- Get rid of toxic people in their lives
- Attract more of what they want
- Overcome fear
- Get unstuck
- Be more self-confident
- Improve self-esteem
- Recognize, take advantage of and build on their strengths
- Honor their achievements
- Create their own definition of success — and figure out how to get there
- Stop sabotaging themselves
- Become strong, powerful women without losing their compassion and empathy
- Find balance in their lives
- Set boundaries and stick to them
- Handle uncomfortable situations and emotions
- Establish supportive relationships with other women
From a business and professional standpoint, I want to help them:
- Find the right career
- Become more productive
- Use their time more wisely
- Overcome procrastination
- Improve their leadership skills
- Learn how to be taken seriously
- Become risk-takers
- Get started in business
- Market their business
